    • In 1997, Wizards of the Coast acquired TSR and took over the publishing of D&D.
    • In 2000, the third edition of D&D was released, which introduced a major overhaul of the game system and rules.

    • Dungeons & Dragons has expanded beyond the tabletop with novels, video games, board games, and a variety of other media. The Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance are just a few of the popular campaign settings within the D&D universe.
  7. Online Play and Streaming:

    • The rise of the internet has facilitated online play through platforms like Roll20 and virtual tabletops, making it easier for players to connect and play remotely.
    • The game's popularity has also been boosted by streaming and actual-play shows, such as Critical Role and The Adventure Zone, which showcase D&D campaigns to a wide audience.
